Take Action
Two ways to support LGBTQ+ students and youth in Michigan right now.
Personal note from Frank Vaca: Support of the initiatives on this page reflects my personal advocacy as an individual. These asks do not represent the positions of Everybody Reads & Stuff or the Lansing Queer Almanac collective.
Support Inclusive Schools in Michigan
Organized groups are attacking LGBTQ+ students and educators across Michigan. Our youth need safe, affirming schools — and they need us to speak up now.
More likely to be bullied
LGBTQ+ students in Michigan are far more likely than non-LGBTQ+ peers to be bullied and victimized in schools.
Higher risk of homelessness
Michigan LGBTQ+ youth face significantly elevated rates of homelessness compared to their peers.
Suicide risk is real
LGBTQ+ students in Michigan are more likely to attempt suicide — inclusive school policies save lives.
Books under attack
Organized groups are pushing to ban LGBTQ+ books from Michigan school libraries, targeting diverse voices and stories.
The petition calls on school boards to:
- Pass transgender and non-binary inclusive policies with required staff professional development
- Protect school library collections — no book removed without a formal reconsideration process
- Publicly affirm support for LGBTQ+ students and staff
Organized by PRISM Detroit, GLSEN Southeast MI, Stand with Trans, and Michigan Education Justice Coalition.

Support the MOASH LGBTQ Students Project
The Michigan Organization for Human Rights (MOASH) runs a dedicated project supporting LGBTQ+ students across the state. Your contribution helps fund direct support, advocacy, and resources for young people who need them most.
Michigan Organization for Human Rights (MOASH)
MOASH has been a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ civil rights work in Michigan for decades. Their LGBTQ Students Project focuses specifically on the safety, inclusion, and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth in Michigan schools and communities.
